PERSONALITY:
Described by her peers as honest, hard working and in desperate need of loosening up, Ingrid would be regularly described as "the adult" among the group. She is very much a small adult even before she grows up into one, as even from infancy she was arranged to be married. The trajectory of her life was set for her before she could even speak, yet from a young age Ingrid had dreams of knighthood. She grew up reading stories of gallant knights and growing up mostly around other men - her brothers and childhood friends alike - while never feeling she could fulfill her dreams. Her dreams after all stand in stark contrast to her duties to her household and its future.
Let's dial back to the circumstances surrounding this. In the world of Three Houses there are two types of people: those born with a Crest, and those born without. Nobles are considered as such only by being born with a crest, and in these households only children with a crest can be the inheritor of an estate. Ingrid is the first in her family to be born with a crest in a generation, putting enormous pressure on her to marry even when she tears up letters from her father asking to approve of suitors he sends her way.
Ingrid is less angry and more conflicted about the circumstances. She had actually fallen in love with her original suitor, Glenn Fraldarius, and he very much helped inspire her passion and dreams to further as a knight himself. When he died in battle, Ingrid praised his nobility in dying for the kingdom and aspired even stronger than ever before to become a knight as him. However this also means she has adapted a certain fatalistic mindset, saying how she would not mind dying for the honor of the king and the country. It isn't a healthy mindset, this she knows, but it's how Ingrid coped with the loss of her fiance. By turning him into an ideal to strive toward, she can still chase her dreams despite the danger and heartbreak they come with.
This takes us to Ingrid, age 16, enrolling in the Officer's Academy at Gareeg Mach and being placed in the Blue Lions house. Ingrid became known on campus for being a perfectionist who demands others take themselves as seriously as she takes herself. She gets easily bristled when she sees someone slacking off or acting immaturely, and is quick to step in to give her opinion on the matter. She does so with a strong attitude that comes off as harsh and disparaging for even the most minor offenses. It's strong enough that Ingrid has more than the occasional instance of reflecting on how she behaved and apologizes right after... unless she sees the same behavior repeated, causing her frustrations to amplify.
Though it is in her nature to fuss, she does so because she wants everyone she cares for to be at their best - herself included. Ingrid is earnest and kind to all, albeit somewhat stiff and formal even with her friends. She always refers to Dimitri, the crown prince, by title even in the monastery, and administers her teasing as veiled threats if lines that she defines are crossed. Her frustrations are largely compounded by how her father still continues to insist she be married, as it makes her feel more like a tool and less so a person with her own free will.
It is also noted that despite her age she has no interest in fashion or makeup. She viewed interests that were more feminine to be frivolous compared to her pursuits. Ingrid's closest friends are notably all men as well, and she remarks how she would play in the mud and fight with them as children with a smile. Yet her supports with women reveal a more sullen side that has never thought about elegant appearances because she thought the only purpose was to attract a suitor. Even though it's between a few years now, Ingrid still holds onto the loss of her fiance with a heavy heart even if she can speak of what happened to him frankly. She tells her friend Annette that she didn't like the idea that parts of herself could change from the time when her fiance was still alive. Though others seem to have moved on (in her eyes at least) she cannot do the same and is especially defensive about the incident to protect Glenn's honor as much as her own.
However things change drastically at the midpoint of the game, when the Empire declares war against the Church of Fodlan. The Kingdom allies with the Church and thus the two largest forces in the country battle for the next five years. Not a lot of time in-between the timeskip is shown, but we see Ingrid in that time has continued her training in the hopes of joining the ranks of the Kingdom forces. She is still as forceful and ambitious as she was in her youth, but growing up has soften some of her edges. For one, she no longer believes in dying for a cause because she knows she must strive to live for that cause. For another, she has come to appreciate why people wear makeup and even puts a little on every once in a while because she enjoys it for herself.
The most important development is that Ingrid has come to realize that she does not necessarily have to choose between honoring her dreams and her family duty. She now aspires to do both, knowing that she wants to restore her family to their former glory while also serving as a knight. Though she is not taken from the end of the game, many of her endings involve either her becoming a knight, inheriting her estate and restoring it to prosperity, or both! In a few endings she chooses neither path to support shared dreams between herself and her partner. What this boils down to is Ingrid always works to remain true to who she is, no matter if she is wielding a lance in combat or not.
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
Weapon Proficiency: Swords and Lances
Ingrid is considered skilled in using lances and swords by the tag skills she begins in the game. Though she is capable of learning and using other weapons and even magic, in canon she is defined by her strength wielding these two weapons. She fights one-handed with both given she's often on horseback, however can wield both just as well with her feet on the ground.
Combat Arts
As part of her weapons proficiency, Ingrid knows a number of techniques known as combat arts. Most of these boil down to "weapon hits harder" but a couple are unique for being useful against monsters (Bane of Monsters/Monster Piercer), striking those on horseback (Knightkneeler), or dealing magic damage in the strike (Frozen Lance). There are two however unique to Ingrid:
Triangle Attack: A special group attack when Ingrid and two other fliers combine forces to strike at the same time.
Burning Quake: Using Luin, her Heroes' Relic, Ingrid can unleash a devastating quake attack that is especially effective against dragons.
Riding and Flying
Ingrid skilled rider on horseback, pegasus and falcon (which is just a fancier, stronger type of pegasus) even among her peers. Riding and flying are two of her tag skills at the start of the game, meaning she has a natural knack for them. Of all the characters in the game she is among the easiest to transition along the path of becoming a Falcon Knight (one of the highest flier classes) because all her skills play into the class assignments perfectly.
When flying and riding she is known for high speed and resistance to magic based attacks. Her speed means she can dodge attacks easily and strike twice on bulkier enemies, and her resistance to magic means mages can't take her down too easily. However arrows can very easily harm her pegasus/falcon.
Minor Crest of Daphnel
The crest she was born with, which sometimes activates to increase her strength in combat. Crests are not visible on the body and someone has to be born with one to have it traditionally. Ingrid cannot control when her crest activates, though it tends to do so when it is needed most.
INVENTORY/COMPANIONS:
-Luin, a Heroes' Relic owned by her house. Heroes' Relics in game are powerful weapons which require a corresponding crest to use properly. Anyone using the weapon without the corresponding crest can do so, but risks being distorted by it into a beast. As she was born with the Minor Crest of Daphnel, Ingrid can wield Luin to its fullest potential.
-For a companion I'd like Ingrid to come with one of her pegasus. Pegasus in game aren't any bigger than horses, though if the fact that it can fly would mean it needs a regain then it can be changed to one of her regular horses.
FACTION CHOICE: Court of Stars
REASON:
Ingrid is and always has been an idealist who dreams of gallant knights and the good of all hearts, even when she knows reality is not so kind and warm as her stories. She is considered a mediating presence in the Blue Lions, especially for her childhood friends who often get ahead of themselves. Lastly she is very much driven by her emotions, and they often play tug of war over her heart when she has to make an important decision. From whether she should marry or stay on the path to become a knight, or if following orders is right if it means innocents could be hurt.
TATTOO:
Auriga, the constellation known as the charioteer, just below the side of her left shoulder.
